O2 Czech Republic
Year: 2013 Market: Telco Product: IPTV/OTT Media Platform
O2 Czech Republic, one of the leading Czech mobile and fixed network operators, was looking in 2012 to relaunch its TV service in an effort to boost its subscriber base through the introduction of the latest IPTV/OTT features and value added services. In order to do so, O2 needed to replace its existing platform with a next generation platform capable of delivering such advanced features and services.
The nangu.TV Media Platform was implemented in 2013, with new O2 TV customers being connected through new state-of-the-art EKT set-top boxes. For existing O2 TV subscribers (totalling some 130,000 households), full migration of all of the STBs to the new nangu.TV platform was completed in a matter of months. Using the open APIs supplied by nangu.TV, O2 was able to introduce their own customer multi-screen solutions for the web and mobile devices.
- O2 announced a total of 240,000 OTT downloads during an initial six-month period
- Since the implementation of the project, the number of STBs used by O2 TV subscribers jumped to nearly 200,000 as of early 2015
- O2 saw a year-on-year jump in the subscriber base of some 20%
